The Utah Society of Pathology began informally in the late 1970s as an educational case-sharing forum. University of Utah and other hospital groups would rotate monthly, showing and discussing interesting or challenging cases. The group was formally established in 1989 as the Utah Society of Pathologists. The USP became incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the current name in June 2014. The society operates through the administrative offices of the Utah Medical Society in Salt Lake City.
